Hey everyone! Long time, no update! So what's been going on in the world of Augustos? Well, it may not seem like it, but a lot. Why? Because I'm planning a reboot for the series!
...oh god, no. Please, put down those sickles and torches, I-I swear, this isn't a bad idea!
I know a lot of people are turned off by reboots and I can see the advantages and the disadvantages to both sides, and I'll tell you why I rebooting Augustos after a long run and lots and lots of reflecting on the matter.
There's a few reasons. The biggest one is consistency, both art-wise and writing-wise. Augustos was my first real venture into the comic scene and it taught me a TON of stuff about what works in a comic, but more importantly, what DOESN'T work. And I found out what doesn't work by doing it, so there's mistakes riddled throughout this story, both in story and the artwork, but mostly in the artwork. Augustos is something that I've reworked and planned and tossed around in my head for going on 10 years now, so it IS something that is very near and dear to me. I want to make it work which is why I'm doing a reobot. If it was anything less significant to me, I would probably drop it and move onto another project. But I find myself reflecting on it quite often, so I can't walk away from it until it is finished.
And what that means is one day I want to have it published! That's right, Augustos in printed form! It's one of my many dreams, so I gotta work hard to make it happen and that may mean starting from the ground up. It wouldn't look too great if a comic was printed and half of it had hand-written dialogue, and the other was a computer font. Or a fifth of the pages were colored and the others were black and white. So, if I'm going to print this, it needs to be consistent and professional! And I believe I'm at the point where I have the skills to make that happen.
Another reason why I'm rebooting it is the characters and the writing, especially earlier on. Often times I will draw a comic with little to no script and this results in me not including everything that I'd like to, which means relationships or motivations with characters are strange or practically nonexistant. So I'm rewriting everything! It will still be a grand ol' adventure, I'm not cutting out any major characters, but I think everything will be just a little more well written and presented better.
And if you've sat down and read all of this, I thank you! I hope you look forward to it, because I promise, it's going to be great! It won't exactly be the same story either, to keep everyone who has already read it interested. The characters are the same, the overall plot is the same, but events will happen differently and arcs have been moved around a bit to make the pacing better.
So IN A NUTSHELL, I want to publish this series at some point in my life. If I was going to do that as it stands now, the amount of work I'd have to do to get it ready for print would be almost equivalent to doing a reboot. And I've already wanted to re-write a LOT since I really started to get into the comic scene, so this is my chance to boost Augustos' quality.
I plan to start this reboot soon! In a little bit more than a month's time. I need to get everything together, but it will be coming very soon! I look forward to it and I hope I don't get lynched over this.
...SORRY for the long as hell post.
i dont care if reboot im just glad these nerds are back because i love themmm
and printed would be really neat! i think you are making the right decision with wanting to publish it - so rebooting. going back and redoing the pages would still be inconsistent.
im glad the guys get a second chance at life
omg is that a piercing???
yes, Rave really embraced his inner sassy emo teen this time around.
and YEAH, just redoing single chapters would be weird and make every other page around them stick out like a sore, inconsistent thumb. there won't be any weird hand written dialogue, random pages with colors, awkward text bubbles, or bad inking. it'll all be FLY AND DOPE.
and besides I just wanna retell the story with more character development. and betterly.
